| Description: |
Diam. 8.9cm. Broken, partially mended. The lower area of the vessel is worn and there are traces of white encrustation. Fine black clay. Tubular tankard with a flat base (evident from a fragment) and a vertical handle with a central groove. The upper section of the vessel, above the level of the handle, is plain except for three relief bands at the rim. A broad decorative band runs around the body at the level of the handle. This consists of eight panels of approximately equal size. Four panels of incised vertical lines are alternated with panels (four) of eight impressed circles, all of which appear to have been made with the same stamp. The circle consists of a segmented ring with a plain relief circle at its centre. Below the level of the handle the vessel is only partially preserved and extensively worn but there appears to be no further decoration. |
