H. 31.2cm, diam. at shoulder 10.9cm, diam. at rim 4.5cm, diam. at base 8cm. Broken and mended. Restored areas at the shoulder and upper body. Fine cream clay and slip. Wheel made bottle with a flat base. At the juncture of the base and body there is a ridge above which the body swells upwards to the shoulder. The straight neck terminates in a thistle-shaped top. In the area of the shoulder and upper body there is incised decoration. On the shoulder this consists of four horizontal bands of small randomly made jab marks. On the upper body there is a horizontal band divided into seven panels, each separated from the next by two shallow marked lines. At the centre of each panel there is a vertical wiggly line which appears to have been made by a four pronged implement as the lines appear equidistant and of equal depth throughout. The panels are separated from the area below by a band of jab marks similar to those at the shoulder. Incised horizontal lines of varying width and depth cover the |
