Name:	Pyriform Aryballos

Description:	H 6.8cm, max. diam. 4.2cm, diam. at rim 2.8cm, diam. at base 1.4cm. About one-third of the lip is missing, otherwise the piece is intact. Fine buff clay. The decoration consists of groups of wide and narrow horizontal bands in a dark brown-black glaze, now much worn in places. Just below the shoulder is a horizontal row of dots. On the shoulder itself, there seems to have been a row of 4 or 5 hooks but only one is clearly visible and unworn. There was a zig-zag on the handle. The flat lip was decorated with concentric circles, now almost entirely worn off.
Date:	Mid to late 7th century B.C.
Discussion:	In shape, this is late Protocorinthian (see Necrocorinthia p. 22, fig. 8) though the decoration is harder to place. Possibly Corinthian.
