| Description: |
H. 8.2cm, diam. at rim 8.4cm. The handle is broken off and missing. It seems to have been a flat strap. Fine, pale buff clay, slightly chalky. Paint varies from red-brown to brown. May have been slightly shiny but now mostly matt. Wheel made, with signs on the base of a string used to separate it from the wheel. The decoration, which is mostly worn away below and on either side of the handle, consists of horizontal bands separated by narrow reserved bands. From the top: a single dark band on lip; a tall zig-zag band between two horizontal bands; a single band; a double zig-zag or linked lozenge band; two horizontal bands; a second double zig-zag or linked lozenge band; two horizontal bands, the lower, 1cm wide, being solidly painted. Inside the lip there seems to have been a band roughly 6mm wide, possibly with groups of parallel lines or triglyphs over the lip, but the decoration only survives around half the lip and even there it is worn. |
