Name: Cypriot Round-Based Jug

Description: H. 18.5cm, W. 8cm. Jug of buff clay, decorated with orange-red paint (some of which is dark brown due to firing). The base is only slightly rounded off, as this was intended to be stored by the handle. A globular body/base decorated with four sets of parallel vertical lines -- beneath the handle, either side of the body and at the front beneath the spout -- from which are alternated a thick wavy line and three parallel horizontal lines, repeated seven times in all. The handle has a stripe on either side and a wavy line down the back. On the elongated neck one line runs from the tip of the spout to the shoulder on either side, joined by horizontal stripes. Halfway up the neck is a side-spout -- a feature common in the this type of vessel, which separates the functions of filling and pouring.
Date: Middle Bronze Age, c. 1900-1650 B.C.
