Name: Cypriot Ring Based Jug
Picture:
Description: H 15.5cm, diam. 10.5cm. Chipped on the body. Thick white, cream and black encrustation, especially in the damaged area. Fine cream clay ring based jug with globular body. The narrow neck flares out to a vertical pinched rim with a ridge at the bottom and top. A vertical ridged handle extends from the body to the top of the neck. Only the upper section is painted orange-brown although it appears that some paint has run into the lower section. The mottled colour is caused by overfiring.
Date: Unknown.
Discussion: Base ring ware is common on Cyprus from the Late Bronze Age onwards.
