Discussion: The Three Mothers were popular Celtic deities under Roman rule, appearing all over Britain from London to Hadrian's Wall. Usually they are depicted wearing heavy cloaks, but reliefs similar to this one have been found in London, Lincoln and Carlisle. See Toynbee 1962: no. 73, p. 155, pl. 84.
