Name: Bottle
Picture:
Description: H. 14.4cm, max. diam. 4.8cm. Body chipped, white encrustation evident inside and outside the neck. Cream-coloured rough clay. Orange paint. The pot does not stand straight on its base. Flat base, swollen body, long vertical neck flaring at the top to the rim. An uneven orange band spirals down the neck from the rim, ending in a large blob (which appears to have run) at the base of the neck. There is another smaller blob of paint on the opposite side. Specks of paint in places.
Date: Unknown
Discussion: The word 'SAIDA' (written in pencil) is discernable near the base -- possibly referring to Sidon (Lebanon). The shape and decoration are indicative of an Eastern Aegean (Bronze Age?) origin.
