Robert, by the grace of God King of Scots, to all good men of his whole land: greeting. Know that we have inspected and truly understood a Charter of the Lord Edward of good memory, by the grace of God King of Ireland, our dearest brother, not annulled, not cancelled, nor in any part of it vitiated, in these words: Edward, by the grace of God King of Ireland, to all good men of his whole land: greeting. Know that we have given, granted and by this our present Charter confirmed to John de Carltoun, for his homage and service, the penny-land of Dalmakeran, the farthing-land of Carr, on which the island is, the penny-land of Enache and the penny-land of Trevercragis, with their pertinents, by all their right marches and boundaries, To hold and to have to the said John and his heirs of us and our heirs in fee and heritage, freely, quietly, fully and honourably, with all liberties, commodities, easements, and just pertinents to the foresaid lands belonging, or that may be any right belong. Paying for the same annually, to us and our heirs, the foresaid John and his heirs, three sufficient spears, on the day of the Nativity of our Lord, at his head manor of Turnbery, and performing for the same annually three suits at our Court of Gervane, at the three head Courts of the year, for all other service, exaction and secular demand. In witness whereof we have ordered our Seal to be affixed to these presents. Witnesses, Philip de Moubray, Adam Moer, John of Cnocdolian, Knights; Gilbert son of Dofnald, Richard Edger, Colin son of Duncan, John son of Fergus and others; and which Charter, in all its points, articles and conditions, in form as well as effect, we ratify, approve and for us and our heirs forever confirm. In witness whereof we have caused our Seal to be affixed to our present Charter. Witnesses, Bernard Abbot of Abirbrothoc our Chancellor, Walter Steward of Scotland, Gilbert de Hai our Constable, Robert de Keth our Mareschal, Knights. At Scone, the twenty-sixth day of July, the year of our reign the eighteenth.
