Rossdhu House Jan 5th 1745
Sir I received yours this moment; we had an alarm last night that the Macgregors had Crossed Lochlomond and were at Inverbeg, but the thing turned out to be intirely groundless, otherways you may depend upon it I had been att Dumbarton Castle Ere now; I verey much approve of General Campbelles orders to secure all the Boat’s & for an Exemple to all the Countrey I sent to Dumbarton some days ago two of every I can Command as mane Men as the Gennerall can need for the above purpose but for Armes they have next to none; I shall derectly gave orders to our folks to gave all the assis-tance thay can to your party, I shall make the Commanding Officer verey wellcom hear & I am
