Inquest made at Inverurie, in front of John de Ros, bailie of Garioch, [on the] eighth day of the month of September, [in] the year of the Lord 1401, in which there were the underwritten, namely, John de Ros of Byres, Gilbert Macbethson, David of Panton, John of Nairn, Robert Burnard, William of Ruthven, William of Fiddes, John of Cramond, Finlay of Troup, John of Resthivet, Patrick of Resthivet, Robert of Buttergask, John Bisset, John Norrie, and Hamelin of Troup, which jurors say, with the intervention of a great oath, that the late Lady Isabel of Inchmartine died vested and saised , as of the feu, at the peace and fealty of our lord king, of the lands of Auchleven, with pertinents, and of the half davoch of land, with pertinents, of Ardoyne; and that Margaret and Isabel, daughters of the same lady Isabel, are the legitimate and nearest heirs of the said Lady Isabel, their mother, of the same lands of Auchleven, with pertinents, and of the half davoch of Ardoyne, with pertinents, and that they are of legitimate age, and that the said lands of Auchleven are valued these days at 18 marks, and were valued in the time of peace 20 pounds, and that the said half davoch of the land of Ardoyne is valued these days at 30 shillings annually, and was valued in the time of peace five pounds, and the said land of Auchleven is held in chief of the lord of Garioch by blencheferme service and by tradition for one penny yearly, if it be asked for, and the said half davoch of land of Ardoyne is held of the aforesaid lord in chief for the service of a sixth part of one suit annually made at the three chief pleas, and the sixth part of one hobelar at war, and by ward and relief, when it may happen, and the said lands of Ardoyne are in the hands of Lord John of Wemyss and of Lord John of Glen, by reason that Margaret and Isabel, their spouses, by tradition saised by the lord of Garioch, and the said half davoch of Ardoyne is in the hands of the lord of Garioch, due to the death of Lord Alan of Erskine, who had the said half davoch of land, by reason of the courtliness of the said Lady Isabel, his late spouse, who died two years before.
